TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) standard within ETSI1 organization describes digital radio system for transmission of voice and data PMR2 services. TETRA is a system with higher area coverage in comparison to some alternate technologies (e.g. GSM) due to lower operating frequency, and with higher voice quality and spectral efficiency, due to use of parametric ACELP3 voice coders. Also, TETRA is a worldwide accepted and applied PMR system characterized with short call set-up time and high network availability, especially during crisis.
TETRA user terminals are able to function in trunking mode of operation (using network infrastructure) and in direct mode of operation DMO (when communication is established directly between user terminals), providing the extra capacity and ability to communicate without network coverage.
Along with numerous possibilities of voice communication management, TETRA is a very versatile data transmission system. These data transmission capabilities of TETRA system are priority for MICRO-LINK, along with TETRA 2 as an expansion of TETRA to multifunctional broadband high capacity network which provides, using advanced modulation schemes, services for high demand applications (e.g. live video transmission).
