Ministry of Interior of Republic of Croatia (MUP) and public transportation system of Croatia's capital Zagreb (ZET) used Eclipse microwave radio for creating their TETRA backhauls, which was the first use of Eclipse for that purpose. ZET's city network is implemented and operational, and MUP's nationwide network is in the process of implementation.

Private/Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) systems like Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) – intended for realization of communication networks for customers with specific, very stringent communication demands – as opposed to conventional radio systems place high emphasis on availability, reliability, safety and privacy issues. System-inherent features of TETRA system address these demands, but they are answered only if they are applied to the system backhaul as well. Therefore, for the needs of Ministry of Interior (MUP) and Zagreb's public transportation system (ZET), TETRA backhauls were realized using one of the most advanced technology solutions in microwave communication systems today – Eclipse system of Harris Stratex Networks, Inc.
Substitution of the outdated analogue voice network with the new TETRA system has automatically included the modernization of existing backhaul network in the function of interconnection of base stations. Such an implementation of the backhaul network often requires months of planning and project development regarding network capacities, availabilities, reliabilities and other technical aspects of the design of communication system. With the application of Eclipse microwave system, and its flexible network development features, time needed for the realization of the network is greatly reduced, enabling simple future modifications of the technical solution, capacity upgrade and network reconfiguration.
Croatian system integrator MICRO-LINK d.o.o., a regional Harris Stratex Networks' partner, has participated in the implementation of MUP's TETRA backhaul network in the role of consultant in the area of radiocommunications (providing technical documentation for the realization of microwave links) and by supplying microwave systems, power supply systems and all accompanying equipment. For ZET's TETRA network MICRO-LINK has delivered project technical documentation of the TETRA network itself, and designed and implemented TETRA microwave backhaul on a turnkey basis.
By using Super - Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (S-PDH) rings, investors have used almost half the quantity of microwave equipment compared to conventional point-to-point microwave links, and in that way realized fully protected radio links at significantly reduced cost. Transport microwave communication networks realized with the Eclipse system ensure MUP and ZET a secure and quality voice and data communication, totally independent from commercial operators, and technologically ready for upcoming additional services and projects.
